Following Supervisor Christy's move to publicize all county commissions and boards, the county videographer was on site at the latest CLEPC meeting to record the proceedings. Supervisor Miller's staffer, ever dutiful, was apparently there early and set up her camera at around 8:45 AM. This does seem redundant, doesn't it? Although the county now films commission meetings, the Supervisor's staffer seemed to have a different agenda. When the Chair of the CLEPC procured the Supervisor's video through a FOIA request, Release the Videos was shocked to see just how partisan and inappropriate this waste of Supervisor Miller's staff time seemed. The raw footage shows the staffer sitting at a table for fifteen minutes, and then shows her recording private conversations between community members, even zooming in to get a closer peek. This behavior continues after the meeting is adjourned, when the staffer follows certain commissioners around the room and records private discussions. The recording continues all the way to her personal vehicle, where she apparently ducks behind her car to record people leaving the building. The whole time, on the clock and using county-furnished equipment. If Supervisor Miller's aim is to increase transparency, then the county recording would be sufficient. Clearly the goal is more political and partisan in nature, while also being somewhat creepy. Also seen in this video is the staffer whispering sarcastically "what a great use of taxpayer dollars." (see clip here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFwwaYD1Od8) Such a partisan statement being recorded on county equipment, archived on official channels and being said by someone in their official capacity as a county staffer is outrageous. The video was then cut and placed on the Supervisor's official YouTube channel to make it seem that the commission wasted taxpayer dollars by starting late and using staff time (ironically being recorded by a county staffer that didn't have to be there). The interesting angle is that the Supervisor complains the meeting was late to start because there was a wait to reach quorum, yet the reason why it was difficult to reach quorum was because she had recalled her appointees. This would be like smashing your TV and then complaining it didn't work. The March 11th CLEPC meeting was called to order at 9:04, and adjourned at 9:15. Similar start times seem to occur in other commissions and boards, who are generally made up of volunteer community members.
